Top 5 World Problems

Top 5 World Problems
1. Increasing Global Population
2.Deforestation
3. Availability of Energy
4.Lack of Drinking Water
5. Climate Change

I choose this order because I think human population is very important. We have an increasing amount of humans and they are not spread out evenly either. Deforestation is getting rid of trees which mean an increase in CO2 and less oxygen. Energy is very important since we rely heavily on it. Drinking Water is becoming an issue now and several countries are dealing with a water issue. Climate change although people believe to be false is very real and is notable by an increase in natural disaster with higher devastation power.

Top 5 Solutions
1.Renewable Energy
2. Limit on Tree Cutting/Enforce Replanting
3. Stricter regulations on Manufacturing and pollution
4. Conservation of Water
5. Limit on childbirth

I choose this order by the accessibility and how realistic the solution is. Renewable energy is real and available. We just have to choose to want it. We can limit how many tree people cut down and also make it so where they have to replant just as many trees as they cut either in the same location or a different location. Stricter regulations on manufacturing and the amount of pollution released can be attained with the right government regulations. Conservation of water is tricky. We all say we conserve water but how exactly? limit on childbirth for me is unethical but doable which is why its last. I don't like the idea placing a limit but it has seemed to work for China so I mean its possible.

  1. I had not considered the fresh water limits facing us, only the hungry population. I think that is important because most people do tend to forget that fresh water is a limited resource given its availability in the US. I think that if people are more aware of the difficulties of hydrating an increasing human population they would be more careful. There are also probably ways of maximizing water usage that are yet to be discovered, so we need to put more effort into that. You made some very good points, I liked it and agreed with most of it.

  2. Erick, I like your ideas. Your reasoning is correct when putting increasing global population as your first problem, since it is the major reason why we have all the others problems you stated. On the issue concerning the lack of drinking water we should probably make some regulations to limit the extent people use water. For example, if water is running for more than 30 mins within a household then it should stop running after this time or it should be charged extra on one's bill; water is a luxury. Recycling water is a very good idea, which is applied in a large extent in Singapore. Water can also be used in order to generate power, as an alternative resource. If we cannot limit on tree deforestation, then what we should certainly do is recycling. However, in developed countries the need of paper is decreased due to the use of tablet screens that people can write on. I really don't know a possible way to limit the world's population, either. I believe it's more important to spread out the population first and also solve the smaller problems first.
