1. Availability of Energy- The Earth is Scarce and we are depleting resources at an unprecedented rate. The US relies heavily on the creation of energy through the burning of natural gas and oils. We need to shift our focus on obtaining energy through renewable resources like solar, wind, and hydroelectric to support the country.
2.Climate Change- Climatologist says that in recent years global temperatures have risen 2 degrees and are expected to rise even more in the near future. Climate affects not only people but animals and the weather as well. Stricter regulations on manufacturing and pollutions not just in the US but world wide.
3. Deforestation- Lack of restrictions is leading to mining companies quickly depleting the earth's resources and increasing the rate of deforestation especially in places like the amazon. This is not only just destroying unique species of plants and animals but is crucial to the survival of our races because plants turn the CO2 in the air into breathable oxygen. Stop cutting down trees and force companies to replant the amount of trees they cut down after the stripped away or in another location.
4.Lack of Drinking Water- We are very wasteful of water considering that fresh water only makes about 8% of the world's water. Being privileged we don't notice much how other people in the world suffer from not having clean sources of water. We can find ways to conserve water.
5.Hunger- The United States in particular is very wasteful when it comes to food. We waste a lot of food and scraps that we find don't meet our standards. Companies like Fresh food are finding ways to reduce food scraps and companies like Aramark, especially here are findings way like composting to reduce the food waste. Hunger is one of the number one problems in third world countries and an increasing problem in the United States.
6.Loss of Biodiversity- Human activity is leading to the extinction of habitats and species. Natural processes like pollination are being affected and are crucial to the human life. We need to regulate human activity more so it doesn't endanger the global environment.
7. Increasing Global Population- The global population is rapidly increasing and more people means more use of resources that are already scarce. Although I find it unethical China's limit on two children per household is a good method of attempting to reduce the population.
8. Drug Abuse- drug abuse in young teens is becoming increasing popular due to many reason from abuse, assault, peer pressure, family issues, or an urge to experience new things. Regulations and reduction of drug abuse depends on the drug in my opinion. Drugs like marijuana I believe should be legalized and will reduce the
9. Unequal Distribution of Wealth- The United States is a good example where the Unequal distribution of wealth is becoming greater and greater. 1% of the US populations owns more than 97% of the countries wealth. Without a strong middle class this can lead to an economic collapse of the country.
10. Obesity- Obesity is becoming an increasing problem. I'm a strong supporter of people feeling comfortable in their own bodies and being true to themselves. However I do believe the is a clear distinguishment of being obese which includes being healthy. You can be overweight and still be healthy. Ways to prevent this is regulate fast food companies and install healthy practices into todays youth.

Erick,
ReplyDeleteYou had a very nice list of very diverse world problems. I like how your list consists of problems that are very obvious and probably on everyones lists and how you also included problems that I didn't event think of until I read you list. Number 8 really stood out to me because that is an obvious problem in the world today and I didn't even think to put it on my list. But what was really interesting to me was your solution. You said that drugs, like marijuana, should be legalized and that might solve the problem of drug addiction with teens. You brought up a very interesting point and I do think that many people would agree with you on this one. Great work!

Obesity is a very addressable problem that we need to begin getting ahead of. We have to teach children good habits while they are young, because good health is much easier to grow up around and then practice than to be taught at 40. It's interesting how that may tie to inequality of wealth. People tend to eat far healthier when they have money to buy nicer food.
